To Hold

Not you, I knew, not you. No scorn from your look or lash from your tongue, no hell from yours, this heart of mine. Not you, I knew, not you. No stitch to be torn or toxin in your love, no balm applied before the burn.

Not you, I knew, not you. A feast from my flesh, you devour my love, and grow yourself in the warmth of my wounds. Not you, I knew, not you. A noose from your arms, an arm from affections, amor, you abandon my ashes.

Not you, I knew, not you. A ghost of a soul, a memory imagined for skin that was marred and a spirit well marked. But you, I knew, for you, a care that consumes, a life for its fuel, this tenderness untouched. And you, I knew, for you, a love that survives, that burns til I’m buried, being all I’d have to hold.

A New Venture

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything at all, but that isn’t too say that I haven’t been productive! While working on a few new, ever-lengthening pieces of fiction, I’ve also been trying my hand at the wonderful world of non-fiction. Now if the thought of that didn’t instantly put you into a boredom-induced coma, have I got a site for you. Introducing Escape Route, which is a completely different title from that of the site you’re visiting now. The site will be more of a blog format and will follow my insatiable need for travel as well as showcasing some stories from past travels.

Visit here.

Let’s be clear: this is not my first dance. I’ve been out of the country before, here and there. In fact, I’ve made kind of an (exorbitantly expensive, occasional) hobby out of it. A semester in Madrid which resulted in week-long travels in Rome and Marrakesh, an ill-fated attempt at living in central Colombia, a brief, albeit glorious trip to Cape Town. I’m not a cloistered xenophobe desperately documenting her entry into the world. Mostly, I was just hoping to get some sort of belated SAT points for use of the word “xenophobe.” What I am is that kid at the table across from yours whose parents gave her a half a spoon of ice cream to “see if she would like it.” I do, and I’m headed for the freezer.

I resort to blatant commercialism. In accordance with this time-honored tradition, I present to you the links where you may purchase the fruits of my labor. Some of them anyway.
